Antalya is one of the most popular choices for families with children, and it’s easy to see why: a warm sea, long beaches, all-inclusive hotels and a short flight. But Antalya is more than hotels and beaches — it has ancient cities, waterfalls and mountains too. Add these places to your plan to make your holiday more varied.
Beaches: Konyaaltı or Lara?
Konyaaltı is a pebble beach west of the city, stretching along the foot of the Taurus Mountains — the water is very clear and the views are stunning. Lara is known for its sandy beach and is more comfortable for small children. If you want a quiet, green area, look at hotels in Belek; if you love mountain and sea views, try Kemer.
Kaleiçi — the old town
The best place for an evening walk is the historic Kaleiçi quarter: cobbled streets, Ottoman houses, small boutique hotels and lanes leading down to the ancient harbour. The Roman-era Hadrian’s Gate and the city’s symbol, the Yivli Minaret, are here too. Kids especially love a sunset boat trip from the harbour.
Düden Waterfalls
The Lower Düden Waterfall pours straight off the cliffs into the sea — a sight you can see in very few places in the world. The Upper Düden, with its shady park and a path behind the falls, is perfect for cooling off on a hot summer day.
A journey into history
Set aside a day for the ancient cities. The Aspendos theatre is one of the best-preserved theatres of the Roman era and still hosts concerts today. Nearby Perge, with its colonnaded streets and baths, brings ancient city life back to life.
Head for the mountains
Near Kemer, a cable car takes you up Mount Tahtalı. From the summit you can see the Mediterranean coast stretching for dozens of kilometres, and it stays cool up there even in summer.

- Season — the beach season runs from May to the end of October; the sea is warmest from June to September.
- Travelling with children? Check whether the hotel has an aquapark and kids’ club.
- Protect yourself from the midday sun — a hat, sunscreen and plenty of water are essential.
